Site civil engineering requires an awareness of the needs and desires of the client(s), a full knowledge of the particulars of the site, and the ability to work cooperatively and effectively with other design professionals. Particularly this is so with high-profile public sector projects. Such projects are typically conducted through a process that generates significant public interest and comment. To be effective and successful in such circumstances requires more than just technical expertise, although this is a very important aspect. Also required is a complete understanding of regulatory approval and permitting processes, as well as the patience, public presentation ability, and interpersonal skills to shepherd a project through those processes.
Nelson Engineering has the engineering, surveying, construction contract administration, and inspection and testing experience, staff, and resources necessary to successfully perform site civil engineering on a wide variety of project types. Four public facilities-related site civil engineering projects with which Nelson Engineering has been associated are described below:
Grand Teton National Park Discovery and Visitor Center

Nelson Engineering participated in the planning and performed the complete design of the utilities, grading, drainage, and surfacing for the new Visitor Center in Grand Teton National Park. Nelson Engineering worked collaboratively with the many involved design professionals to address the sensitive environmental and limited existing infrastructure criteria associated with the site.
Jackson Hole Center for the Arts

This multi-purpose, multi-tenant, 50,000+ square foot facility, designed by a team of consultants from around the nation, was constructed as a community center designed to house not-for-profit art, theater, dance, and educational organizations. Nelson Engineering provided professional services for permitting, site demolition, environmental remediation, utility design, and site layout, including pedestrian circulation, ADA accessibility, and vehicle circulation. During construction, Nelson Engineering provided construction contract administration, weld inspection, and materials testing services.
Jackson-Teton County Recreation Center

Nelson Engineering performed the complete site civil design for this community recreation center that incorporates an eight-lane competition swimming pool, water park, hot tub, steam rooms, therapeutic pool, basketball courts, locker rooms, meeting rooms, and Parks and Recreation Department offices. Included in the design were site grading and drainage, storm water management, paving, water and sewer utilities, site surveying and construction staking, and quality control testing.
Sublette County Court House

Nelson Engineering provided all site surveying, utility, and structural design for this extensive remodel and expansion project. Monthly inspections of structural modifications were completed during construction along with review of the foundation drainage system.
